OUTSPOKEN PRINCIPAL Matthew Farley says that with “drugs, violence, vandalism and a culture of under-achievement” posing “the greatest threat to the island’s education system, it cannot be business as usual” in Barbados’ secondary schools.
Making the assertion yesterday, Farley challenged policymakers to address the social aspects of education.
During an address to the monthly staff meeting at the Nation Publishing Company, Farley suggested it was time to “get back to basics … revise the mission and the overall vision” and come up with a new plan for education.
“The overall vision and philosophy need to be revisited. We are operating on a mission and a vision that are probably about 40 years old,” he charged.
