A?FORMER?Cabinet Minister wants CARICOM?Heads of Government to summon an urgent meeting to have a Caribbean day of national celebrations for London Games Olympians.
Four-time Member of Parliament Hamilton Lashley told NATIONSPORT, the time had come for the “nations to celebrate as one.”
“The time has come for the Caribbean leaders to pay homage and respect to our Caribbean athletes who have done exceedingly well at the London Games,” he said.
“I think a day should be dedicated throughout the region, a day of Caribbean recognition to honour our Olympians.”
Lashley has proposed a Caribbean satellite linkup.
“Part of the strategy could be for each island to interface with each other via satellite and highlight what each country has done. It’s important to have a cross fertilization of activities throughout the region, synchronising with one massive television audience.
“The islands have the right to do their independent celebrations but I feel that the Caribbean people should come together for one day and celebrate to the world, the outstanding successes of the athletes from Jamaica to Grenada,” he said.
