The first flight out of Scandinavia to Barbados in 15 years will touch down at Grantley Adams International Airport in December.
Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy and TUI UK airline CEO/managing director Christian Clemens signed the agreement at a Press conference at Hilton Barbados last Wednesday evening. The flight will provide 1 728 seats out of Stockholm, Sweden and connections from Norway and Finland during the 2011 winter season.
The 288-seat aircraft will fly into Barbados once every two weeks over a 12-week period.
Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy said 300 000 euros had been invested for marketing purposes and that it was “more than worth it”.
Consultant (aviation) to the Barbados Tourism Authority, Neville Boxhill, said 50 per cent of those seats had already been sold. He said sales had been going so well, that the possibility of bringing on flights to fill in the missing week was being considered.
