Isolation Cavaliers Juniors, Bristol and St Philip Juniors registered their second victory, while first round losers YMPC and Banks were also in winner’s row during Series 2 of the Inspire Sports/National Sports Council Under-13 Knockout Competition on Sunday.
Not a ball was bowled in one match and another was abandoned after one innings.
The most exciting finish of the day came at Beckles Road where host YMPC held their nerve to clinch a thrilling eight-run win over Inspire Sports Wanderers.
Needing 150 from their allotted 35 overs, Wanderers were limited to 141 for six. They needed 12 off the last over bowled by medium-pacer Demario Richards but could only eke out five.
Opener Danny Chesham’s second successive half-century, a fine 64, included three fours before he was well caught at mid-wicket with 24 needed. He added 69 for the second wicket in 20.1 overs with Shem Watson who made a spirited 19 before he was run out.
Earlier, YMPC were dismissed for 149 in 34 overs. Shaquon Callender led from the front with a splendid knock of 53 which contained five fours. Medium-pacer Dominic Hart claimed three for 15, all in the last over.
Banks had a narrow six-run victory over Lords at the Brewery. Banks were dismissed for a meagre 114 as off-spinner Kurtley Watterton snatching four for 27. Ayo Barrow and Nicholas Wright then claimed three each for 12 and 15 respectively as Lords fell in the 29th over for 108.
At Passage Road, newcomers Al Falah Juniors’ rough baptism continued when they suffered a massive 162-run loss to one of the tournament favourties, Bristol.
Sent in, Bristol amassed a challenging 192 for seven from their 35 overs. Tremaine Harris stroked a magnificent unbeaten 80, spiced with eight fours. Off-spinner Asif Patel picked up four for 17 from seven overs.
Demolition
In reply, Al Falah Juniors were skittled out for 30 from 22 overs.
St Albans Primary School student Stevenson Forde bagged four for four from three overs of offspin. Joshua Bishop with three for three and Harris two for five aided in the demolition.
Despite an impressive haul of five for 20 from medium-pacer Justin Branker, North Stars went under by 30 runs to St Philip Juniors at Bayfield.
After routing St Philip Juniors for 99, North Stars were shot out for a mere 39. Off-spinner Renaldo Callender was the main wicket-taker with four for 15.
Isolation Cavaliers had a hard- fought seven-wicket win over Ellerton Juniors. They reached the target of 92 with 20 balls to spare at Lakes, scoring 95 for three from 31.4 overs.
Meanwhile, there was no play in the game between Market Hill and Express Hardware Dover at Market Hill due to rain.
Defending Champions Fusionz Boutique Passage United were bowled out by newcomers Police for a disappointing 108, on a slow pitch after they elected to bat at Weymouth.
However, a heavy shower during the break forced the match to be abandoned. Both matches will be replayed on Saturday.
