NCF head goes

NCF head goes Donna Hunte-Cox as she left the NCF yesterday evening. (Maurice Giles)

Tue, May 01, 2012 - 12:09 AM

AT APPROXIMATELY 5:50 P.M. yesterday, Dr Donna Hunte-Cox walked out the doors of the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) as its former chief executive officer, after she was informed her three-year contract had not been renewed.

The DAILY NATION understands that around 4:10 p.m. the agency’s chairman, Monique Taitt, accompanied by board member Dr Deryck Murray, delivered a letter from the board informing Hunte-Cox of the decision. It is understood an accompanying letter from Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley said he had accepted the board’s decision.

Hunte-Cox’s departure ends several weeks of speculation on whether the contract she took up on May 1, 2009, would have been extended. She was the second female to hold the position.

Hunte-Cox’s reportedly volatile relationship with the chairman has been well documented in THE NATION publications almost from the time Taitt assumed the post last January, after the newly-appointed Lashley accepted the resignations of former chairman Ken Knight and the other members of the board.

Cruel and inhumane behaviour towards the woman.....she should have been informed that it wasn't gonna happen.

Is this a matter of politics or non-performance? Was it only the Chair lady or did the Director have a volatile relationship with the entire Board? Was her contract not renewed because that talkative man who just appeared back in the land has his eye on the prize?

It simply amazes me that a government is elected; boards are chosen and in such a short period of time not only the board members but the respective ministers know more about running the organization that persons who have been working there for years and are either trained or have experience in that particular area, or both. Each time a head goes someone acts in that position. Will the usual person get to act this time or has the new head been chosen already.

First off, the timing of the delivery of the Letter of dismissal STINKS of UNPROFESSIONALISM,she should have been given the same length of notice that any other worker MUST be given.
next, why is it that the NCF changes CEO's so often?? and does these regular administrative firings and hirings not reflect in the obvious CULTURAL DECLINE of The CROPOVER FESTIVAL. how can the Festival go forward when they are always new people in important positions, and the Minister seems to be in agreement with these shenanigans.no doubt that the festival has never reached it's Tourism potential, because it has become just another carnival.the NCF needs to be taken out of the Political realm, and privatised.we can't work with one another in a small office in Barbados, but we are running around talking about CSME and single Economy!!!Hah

To say that after working 3 years that a person is unsuitable for the job is a reflection on the Board. Monique Taitt should be removed as Chairman of the NCF board... it still represents poor management.

Everybody who take these political jobs KNOW that there are just that (political) and they know that they are at the whims and fancies of the Minister and the Board Chairman. They know why they got the job, why the person before them had it and why their replacement will get it. I could not take one of these jobs because I couldn't work like that. The Minister giveth and the Minister taketh, and that is nothing new!!!
