No-ball!

Barbados’ cricket selectors have been bowled a vicious bouncer by a coach.

Alvin Greenidge, coach of the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP), has taken issue with a 40-man squad announced in preparation for the 2013 regional four-day first-class championship and 50-overs competition.

Greenidge, a former Barbados and West Indies batsman, was peeved about the omission of two of his players – Antonio Greenidge and Renaldo Brathwaite – and also voiced his displeasure over a policy by the selectors to “recycle” players.

The 21-year-old Antonio Greenidge, who is not related to Alvin, was the third highest run-scorer in this year’s LIME Elite Division with 580 runs (ave. 38.67), while Brathwaite, also 21, who is part of the national Twenty20 training squad, scored 453 runs (ave. 28.31.).

“I can’t tell you how disappointed I am. I can’t believe the selectors will sit down and omit these two young men. I feel they have made a mistake,” Greenidge told WEEKENDSPORT yesterday.
