No ‘big issue’

Minister of Education Ronald Jones is defending the need to hire teachers in the wake of the shake-up at the Alexandra School just before the start of the new term.
Close to 40 teachers were transferred from and to Alexandra School, a development which included the removal of then principal Jeff Broomes and his deputy Beveley Neblett-Lashley from the St Peter school.
Even though Jones and Chief Education Officer Laurie King had contended that they had achieved perfect fits with the transfers, The Lodge School and Princess Margaret are looking to hire part-time teachers and there are issues with the inability of the heads of departments who were transferred from Alexandra to teach the same subjects as heads they have replaced at other schools.
Speaking to the DAILY NATION yesterday, Jones said he did not see hiring as a “big issue because of the complexities”.
