Not a word

Not a word Jeff Broomes. (FP)

By Barry Alleyne | Sun, December 30, 2012 - 12:10 AM

Twenty-four hours after the massive shake-up at The Alexandra School, mystery yet surrounds embattled principal Jeff Broomes. Will he take up office at the Parkinson Memorial School for the rest of the school year?

Broomes was tight-lipped yesterday, simply saying to the SUNDAY SUN he was on vacation leave and enjoying the time by relaxing.

His attorney-at-law Vernon Smith, QC, had even less to add.

“I have nothing to say on that matter. Nothing whatsoever,” the veteran lawyer said when asked if Broomes had actually received an official letter of transfer to Parkinson from the Ministry of Education.

Please read the full story in today’s SUNDAY SUN, or in the eNATION edition.

What do you mean if he would take up office? Is there a choice in the matter? I don't recall being transferred to a different branch of the company and refusing to go because the only place to go from there would be through the door if I refused.

After reading articles relating to this situation, I remembered when allegations first came of priest abusing their power, the church though that by transferring troubled priest the problems would go away.

I am just saying the government or ministry of education seem to think the problem will be solved by moving it around.

I am not surprised since i have had reason to call and visit the Ministry of education and have been sent from one department to another, running around for half an hour because no one knows who is responsible for anything there.

Please allow me to help you Bold Lady, every analogy is not easy to understand. I never mentioned paedophilia (sexual abuse of children) just the fact that instead of dealing with a problem attempts are made:

To hide it.
To make things quiet again.
To stop people from talking about the real issues surrounding what ever the problem is.
To make it so people start to forget.

Instead of facing what ever the issue is and dealing with it, the problem with this tactic is it only seems to work for a while and eventually the problem becomes so big something has to be done.

Bold Lady, LV's analogy makes perfect sense, in that a difficult situation, as with the priests, was dealt with through transfers, as now is the case with Broomes. The part of the analogy that bears relevance is the TRANSFER of the individual. Let's not get confused.
