The United States Embassy in Bridgetown is yet to issue a formal statement on the Raul Garcia saga.
However, when contacted Friday, a United States official in Washington said the government was not allowing Garcia to return because he was not an American citizen.
The Cuban-born convicted drug dealer, who was arrested in Barbados in 1994 and recently completed his sentence, is now on a hunger strike here.

Comment LinkGood point indeed Bim Bum.
We should send him back to his passport issuing country.
But then again in 1994, we were letting Americans travel here on less than a passport if I recall correctly.

Comment LinkIt is my understanding from reading a few other articles that Raul Garcia entered Barbados on a passport from Columbia that was issued under an identity he assumed upon moving to Columbia fleeing prosecution for drug charges in the US (Edilberto Coronell Munoz). This was the identity he was using when arrested in Barbados. While incarcerated, he revealed to authorities that his real identity was Raul Garcia. When offered the opportunity to return to Columbia upon his release, Garcia apparently refused to travel on a false passport.
I support the US not allowing him back in given his past criminal history there.
