Pietersen out of Twenty/20

Tue, August 21, 2012 - 9:26 AM

Kevin Pietersen has been left out of the England squads for both the World Twenty20 tournament and the preceding one-day series against South Africa.

The 32-year-old was dropped for the third Test against South Africa after allegedly insulting Test captain Andrew Strauss in texts to the tourists.

Pietersen apologised for the messages admitting they were "provocative".

England team director Andy Flower said: "There's unresolved issues of trust and respect which have to be resolved."

Pietersen had been expected to meet Strauss this week to discuss the matter but speaking after his side's defeat by South Africa in the third Test on Monday, the England captain said that as far as he was concerned that would not be the case.

Once trust is broken, it's very hard to regain it. Not impossible, but hard. Rebuilding bridges takes time, energy, mutual commitment etc. Think KP will find it difficult to get back into the good graces of his team mates who may feel he betrayed them with his negative comments. Generally speaking, natural man isn't apt to forgive such indiscretions of which KP is guilty. At 32, KP's best course of action if he desires to continue playing international cricket may be to return to his native South Africa and try to make their team. But that country might rebuff such attempts thinking too that KP will pull the same thing on them. What a bad situation KP has gotten himself into.
