Ri-Ri’s home

FRESH FROM a successful whirlwind tour of Europe, local superstar Rihanna came home for a little rest and relaxation yesterday.
Roving NATION photographer Sandy Pitt was on the spot as Rihanna greeted her mother Monica Fenty with a hug at Grantley Adams International Airport, and then engaged in girlish banter before hopping into the driver’s seat of her Range Rover.
The two then exited the airport around 2:30 p.m.
The 22-year-old pop music star has been the talk of the town over the last two days, since debate in the House of Assembly centred on the land given to her by Government at the upscale Apes Hill Development in St James. (RJ)

Rihanna is free to pursue her personal dreams. But I believe that we as a country are making a mistake by holding her up with an OFFICIAL ambassadorial title.

True, the publicity is good for Barbados, but God only knows what price we will eventually pay for the resultant moral degradation. Rihanna’s last video TE AMO, in which she appears to promote LESBIANISM cannot be commended.

It is her right to do what she likes on a personal level, but these types of behaviours should not be attached to ambassadorial representation. Nevertheless, I pray for her and I certainly wish her lasting success.

To all Bajans, you see what i mean? Ri Ri comes home to rest not to help Bajans. She is making a name for herself. She could not care about Barbados.
The only reason she still has a Bajan accent is because the accent is so hard to lose. Wake up Bajans.  Tell Ri Ri to start doing something for Barbados if she loves Bajans.  I am a Bajan living in Boston and I would like to see her do some good for Bim, then i will give her the respect.

I have to say that Rihanna is a great singer and a lovely woman but my question is this.  Why is it that the gov’t is giving her a piece of property?  We all know that she can afford propery without it having to be given to her.  Is this the norm to give talented bajans a gift such as this?

I think the look is unflattering and horrible. Yes its true she can buy her own land, the poor needs the help from the government. The athlete who got the the land from government does not have that kind of money Rihanna has, lastly what T&T government do something on that scale for BC does’nt mean the B’dos Government has to follow suit…

Saying anything else other than kind words about Rihanna you are automatically branded as a Hater.well that’s not the case here but I do have a problem with the ambassador status she has been given.Look just a few weeks ago there were a number of articles in the paper about the rise of lesbianism within our society. For those who have not seen her Te Amo video please watch it because that is exactly what she is promoting. We have way too much double standards in Barbados.. she is not ambassador or role model material and there are way too many positive young people out there that is more deserving of that title but as they are not known internationally I guess they are not eligible. We place too much emphasis on the superficial. Why is it that you have to do something internationally to be given recognition? What is that saying to our kids? Simply put, you have to either run at an international level or get a record deal to be successful in Bim.

I don’t think rhianna should be given any land yes she is a Bajan but what has she done for this country other than to place our little island on the world map but that is about it…she should me meant to pay for land like other Bajans…she could afford it considering she has a house in the US valued at more money than what the land here is worth…i was reading a magazine last week and i was looking at how much that young lady has changed since she was placed in the spotlight it is ridiculous…becoming a star should not change the person you were raised by your parents to become.

I am a teenager, but although I love Rihanna and wish her all the success in the world, I honestly feel the Goverment is going over board with this. I know she is a successful girl, but she could care less what happens here in Barbados while she is overseas. While there are some people homeless and losing their homes to fires and other disasters, the Goverment is concentrating on Rihanna, without considering the other worthy people in this country who needs property and help from the Goverment.I am so dissappointed in the goverments decision and the high pedestal they are placing her on. Such a pity!

I would like you all to stop saying that Rihanna placed Barbados on the world map.  You all fa real?  Look how many ‘stars’ had homes and vacations in Barbados before her stardom.  I do not agree with her being an ambassador because most of her attention is negative.  While this is ideal for her, cause that’s what they use to keep their ratings up, they do just about any outrageous thing just to be in the spot light.  It is not ideal for that of an ambassador, so that title does need to be taken away.  Her hairstyle is just awful and I am just waiting for Bajans to copy this ridiculous hairstyle.  As for her receiving the land I am all for rewarding good work, so if she has achieved the grammies and international status, it would be very bad if her own country did not acknowledge her.  So please give jack her jacket.  But by now i would have thought that she would have had a Caribbean tour which included Barbados.

to bjngirl…u could only be mad! If she had to go some other place to rest u would say “why she can’t come home to rest” u know what’s wrong with bajans like u, wunna too down grading and grudgeful minded! At least she did a good enough job being one of the many musicians to make Barbados GLOBAL musically in this new era. If u want to help out Barbados so much….start supporting ur own kind. That’s why other nationalities can get further b/c of SUPPORT!!!! STUPESSSS

Listen Barbadians leave Rihanna alone. Barbadians need to realise that Rihanna does not make music for us she caters for north American fans. However I find that Barbadian people like to see their own fail, Rihanna did not ask to be an ambassador. What people do not realise is, Rihanna is young and she is entitled to make mistakes big and small. She should be not be judged by what type of music or video she makes. separate the two, and maybe you will see the person who everyone think or want her to be. Rihanna, stay strong and continue to do what you do best.

Some want to know where is the land for the poor and some say that they should give it to who can`t afford to buy. Are the investors going to invest millions of dollars on things like condos, a golf course and then go out and put ads in magazines that they have now developed an area in a place call Apes Hill in Barbados and they`re a few poor and unfortunate people that will be your neighbors. The developers know that when they have celebrities like Rhihanna they will make big dollars for their investors.
Rihanna you make your living in the US, a great country and none of the bajans that envy you can`t stop you from appearing on shows like Oprah,Larry King or Barbara Walters and on the covers of magazines.
Rihanna be carefull while you`re there because some bajans seem to be very envious of you.

Although Rihanna does not need the gift I believe that this is the least that the Barbados government can do as a form of appreciation for Rihanna’s pricelelss promotion of Barbados (which could be valued in the million of dollars).Barbados   had never been mentioned this much on an international level(i.e outside the caribbean community). Another thing why do people always offer suggestiona as to what Rihanna should do with her time or her money ? I am sure she gets proposals from countless others and it is in her best interest to listen to only one person - herself. I am also a Bajan living overseas and from the   obvious hate Rihanna receives from her own people, if I were her, I definitely would not be mentioning Barbados in any interview or conversation - for what reason?
