WITH?THE MINISTRY of the Environment and Drainage disbursing the last monies from its funds for non-profit organizations yesterday, resources for community based groups will now be available through the Global Environmental Facility (GEF).
Minister of the Environment and Drainage Dr Denis Lowe said that Cabinet, at its meeting of October 14, 2010, endorsed the reallocation of US$250 000 per year from Barbados’ total allocation in the Global Environment Facility to its small grants programme.
During the presentation of the grants to five non-profit organizations at the ministry’s office, Musson Building, Hincks Street, Lowe said the grant facility was created to address global environment issues at the community level by focusing on key areas such as biodiversity conservation; climate change mitigation; prevention of land degradation; the elimination of persistent organic pollutants and the protection of international waters.
