Within two weeks, Barbados will have a refurbished National Stadium and a spanking new international track.
Yesterday, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth Stephen Lashley made a quick visit to the National Stadium, where he declared he was extremely pleased with the work being carried out there.
“Obviously the installers have had to cope with the rain, but I am very pleased with the quality of the work and the progression in laying the new track as well as the infrastructural work being done.
“The excavation of the substructure to correct errors with the previous track would have affected the original timelines. However, this is a very extensive project and while there is no right time to start such an extensive project, once you start, you have to follow through to completion,” said Lashley in an exclusive interview with NATIONSPORT.
The minister said that the total refurbishment being carried out at the Stadium, the innovative drainage system that encircles the track, as well as the upgrading of the inner field, would all add to the pristine conditions that the fans and competitors would enjoy when the total work was completed.
