Tight security at Polytechnic

Principal of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP), Hector Belle, is reporting a safe campus that “feels like heaven” with rigorous security in place.
Belle told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday the SJPP had been carrying out daily checks on people and vehicles entering the campus and they had not turned up any weapons.
“You have to come to the gate armed with your valid ID,” Belle said, “and you have to show it to security and they check you for weapons because we want to keep in here a safe place and we have not had any incidents.”
Everyone entering the campus must pass through the security-manned gates where guards use an electronic scanner to check their bags. The guards also make spot checks on the trunks of vehicles entering and exiting the compound.
Belle said security was tightened as a result of an incident there some years ago involving a student and a visitor. (GC)
