What’s Trending: REDjet switch

The Nation’s Associate Editor, Sherie Holder-Olutayo takes a look at what’s trending today in Barbados.
The news that REDjet is looking to revamp its management structure in the hopes of getting the embattled airline flying again was met with keen interest from many of our online readers. Here’s what some of our online readers had to say.
David Aplmac: I think Bajans want RedJet to continue, but only insomuch as they can get the cheap travel. But ultimately Redjet will fail, just as every other inter-island airline has failed, LIAT included!
LIAT is kept aloft only due to massive taxpayer input, let's not fool ourselves.
Olivia Hoyte: We got 10 million to give REDjet? This is a joke, I don't care where this money comes from but not tax payers! Private company wants government help? Joke.
Tania Whitby-Best: I used REDjet twice and had same problems as I did with other airlines but did not complain as the tickets were cheap, however Redjet still owed me for a ticket I paid for in March and had to buy a new ticket on another airline for more than twice the price. Until I get back money and with interest I am not flying with them again don't really care if they fly again, taking people's hard earn money is not a good thing! Good luck to them but I am done.
Titus Thomas: REDjet owes me for five tickets, I need my money. I am looking forward to seeing this airline fly again despite my disappointment.

I never thought that RedJet fares would remain as low as $9.99. I anticipated that the rates would have rise.
I think the delay in REdJet getting licenses to fly into certain Islands hurt the Company a lot. Those delays help to deplete RedJet financial reserves. They were paying staff for months while the Aircrafts were not flying. That would have ruin any business financially.
Many people are running their mouths without understanding some of the problems that lead to RedJet being grounded. It is really sad that the Airline has been grounded, I hope it can be back in the air sooner that later. It will help to stimulate travel in the region. I would like to see RedJet flying into every Caribbean Island if that mean replacing LIAT and saving the TAX PAYERS of Barbados and the other Islands that are shareholders of LIAT millions of dollars a year.
