$50 fine a slap on the wrist

The law needs to be sharpened to deal with parents who fail their responsibility of ensuring that their children receive a sound education.
The current fine of $50 tends to undermine the seriousness of this social evil, which breeds delinquency and threatens the social fabric of our society.
One only has to do an in-depth study of the inmates at Dodds Prisons. In addition to the delinquent behaviour among our youth, one will be able to see what poor educational backgrounds they have.
When a person lacks a sound education, that person is inhibited in all aspects of life. Hence, he often resorts to devious measures as a means to live.
Cognizant of the seriousness of this situation, every effort should be made to help that child achieve a sound education. Remember, this child is a product of society. Children are not responsible for their upbringing.
With regards to the parents, they should be encouraged to seek out legitimate ways to financially provide for their children.
