All for freedom; not hate!

The article Don’t Hate Garcia!, published in last Thursday’s DAILY NATION could give readers the false impression that I David Comissiong stated: “Hate Cuba for not letting him back to his home . . . . Hate the United States for not letting him back there.”
But the truth is that I would never use the word “hate” in relation to Cuba, nor the United States for that matter.
Further into the article, my actual words are quoted: “I trust the Barbadian people will understand the situation . . . . They may be vexed with the Government of the United States and the Government of Cuba, but don’t be vexed with Mr Garcia . . . . He committed a crime, but has served his time, and deserves to be free.”
Of course, if the Barbados Government decides, like the governments of the United States and Cuba, it doesn’t want Mr Garcia, it is within its rights to deport him; and they may take as long as it wishes. But it cannot continue to deprive Mr Garcia of his liberty.
