Bad courses for horses

I am disgusted with the growing number of race horses being given away after retirement, only to be left tethered in abandoned areas without food, water and shelter.
These animals, due to no fault of their own, are suffering horrendously.
They lack medical care too, and these animals, once prized for their stamina and speed, are now mere worthless ornaments to the greed of human beings.
How can we as humans, act so callously, so unkind to an animal? Where are the laws to protect these animals?
Where is the legislation to prosecute those people who treat these animals so atrociously?
We discover in Barbados every day horses, dogs and cats being neglected and ill-treated.
We need to act now to protect these animals that cannot help themselves.
More people need to be sensitized to the plight of these animals; and the Government needs to wake up and come to their rescue without delay.
