No cakewalk with pit bulls

I agree wholeheartedly with Monday’s DAILY NATION Editorial on the dangers of pit bulls.
I live at Kingsland Heights in Christ Church, and the terror for me hit home, as I did not go for my 5:15 a.m. walk as I normally do twice a week, simply because of the pit bull attack in the area.
The danger is even more real when you take into consideration that in the Kingsland areas there are many elderly walkers, most of whom are returning home when I am heading out at 5:15 a.m.! There are at least three groups of “retired” female walkers whom I encounter every time I go walking at that early hour.
The area is popular for walking, and the presence of pit bulls renders this activity hazardous and potentially deadly.
I know where every dog is located on my walking route, and they are always secured behind fences or tied, but I never factored pit bulls into the equation. I would certainly opt for the gym in lieu of walking in the early morning, but I rather suspect that the gym is not a feasible option for most of the elderly people I meet walking each day.
If dog owners are held criminally liable when their dogs attack innocent bystanders, they might be more diligent in ensuring their dogs are secure at any hour – and all hours.

Well said, owners should indeed be held liable.

For a owner to be liable, it would mean that some innocent person would have already been maimed by this vicious animal. I do believe that a ban on having this animal should be in place and enforce to prevent either situation from happening.
