The unhealthy sweet tooth

It’s an abomination that Barbadians are having to consume white bleached denatured unhealthy sugar when we are a sugar-producing country – in fact, one of the first in the world.
The decline of the local industry continues from year to year and what is produced is sold to the European Union at less than the cost of production to earn foreign dollars to buy goods and services from these developed countries for materialistic Bajan consumers.
Could this situation occur elsewhere in the world where local consumers are forced to consume inferior sugar when sugar of the best quality is produced?
Doubtful.
The matter of sugar has to be addressed sooner rather than later, so that Barbadians, especially the young, have a chance to enjoy healthy options and not be forced to consume inferior foods.
