Begging for a place for me and my 6 children

Dear Christine.
I AM CURRENTLY renting a house which has no bath or toilet.
When I want to use the bathroom I have to go by the man I rent the house from. I begged him to put in toilet and bath, but that’s a “no, no.” I bathe outside in the yard which is not private.
Next thing! The water bill is very high. I do not use that much water, yet he wants me to pay half of the water bill. He has both the electricity and water connected to his property.
I am desperately in need of somewhere to live.
I went to the National Housing Corporation. No help! I went to the Welfare Department. No response! I went to the Minister. No response! There seems to be no one to help me.
I am willing to pay at least $500 in rent monthly. The house I currently rent is not in good condition. It is filled with holes and any mouse, rat, or other animal can enter.
I have six children. Please help me for the children’s sake.

Dear J.B
I have printed your letter so that anyone who has a house in the price range you have stated can contact me.
I am tempted to ask you though, where is the father or fathers of these children? Are you carrying these burdens of yours on your own? I hope not!
You really do need to be living in better hygienic conditions and I hope help will soon be forthcoming.
I will pass on the contacts of anyone who calls.
– CHRISTINE
