Damage control

Barbados’ tourism agencies have embarked on comprehensive damage control to combat any fallout from the South Coast sewage problems.

William “Billy” Griffith, chairman of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI), the island’s main tourism marketing agency, said yesterday managers in all Barbados’ tourism source markets were being continuously updated on the situation, and were in turn disseminating the information to tour operators and other partners responsible for bringing tourism business to Barbados.

Britain, Canada and the United States, Barbados’ three top tourism source markets, last week issued health advisories for their citizens visiting the South Coast, after widespread reports of offensive sewage flows in some areas.

Griffith said yesterday the BTMI was communicating with all of its tour operators and their partners, and “giving them updates on the developments to reassure them that all the authorities are working to come up with a resolution of the issue”. (GC)
