Ambulance at the fire station?

THRE Minister of health announced in Parliament on Tuesday last week that the Government of Barbados would be purchasing four additional ambulances and decentralizing the fleet by stationing an ambulance at one or more of the existing polyclinics. The latter action is a move in the right direction; but I humbly suggest that Government consider merging the Ambulance Service with the Fire Service thereby creating a Fire And Emergency Service, as is done in some other countries. Such a merger might see the stationing of at least one ambulance at each of the six fire stations across Barbados, with the final allocation being determined by the known demand for ambulance service from the areas now served by the six fire stations. It may also be physically easier and less costly to expand existing accommodation at those fire stations for the additional vehicles and the personnel required to operate them.
