BARBADOS’ PRIVATE PRIMARY schools are on the rise.

What appears to be a growing demand for private schooling has seen several new schools established to meet that need over the past decade. Saturday Sun research indicates that Trinity Academy, Warrens Primary School, Saanma Junior School, St Luke’s Academy and Legacy Preparatory are just some of the new schools which have been founded in the past ten years, with rolls ranging from 225 students to just five students.

This is even as public primary schools contract, with some being amalgamated into new schools such as Blackman Gollop Primary and George Lamming Primary, and others such as Society Primary and Chalky Mount Primary being absorbed into larger schools.

Smaller class sizes and more individualised attention are the leading reasons for parents choosing to go with private over public schools, according to private school educators who were interviewed. (ALF)
