Stronger storms likely

Expect stronger storms in the future.

The Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) says research has shown that Atlantic storms are likely to become stronger due to climate change.

While there may not necessarily be more tropical storms or hurricanes, systems will definitely be stronger with more intense winds and rainfall.

The CMIH explained that over the past 160 years or so, there has not been a clear trend in hurricane season activity, so any perception of hurricane seasons becoming more active cannot at present be attributed to climate change. (MB)
