Leaders Pan American International Insurance Warrens scored a predictable win, while UWI Blackbirds suffered a shock defeat when the second round of the Goddard Enterprises Limited Division One Volleyball League served off at Oldbury, St Philip, on Sunday night.

Defending champions Warrens stuttered before dismissing Phoenix Security Limited Carlton 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 25-16. The victory moved Warrens to 28 points from a 6-1 record.

Warrens played the first two sets without their starting six, with veteran Anthazia Mason playing the role of setter and Sophia Walcott relaxing on the bench. Carlton seized the opportunity but failed to press the advantage before Warrens assumed control of the latter sets.

Carlton, behind outstanding efforts from Reanna James and Jamaican Tressan Gordan, took the battle to Warrens, locking the scores from 19 up to 23, before letting slip the opening set. (KB)
