Government is about to make another attempt to convince the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that the Barbados economy is on the right track.
The DAILY NATION was told, by an official who will participate in the discussions, that an IMF delegation is due here next week to conduct Barbados’ annual Article IV consultation.
When the team of economists comes, it is expected to be presented with the new Barbados Sustainable Recovery Plan. A draft of the plan was discussed by the Social Partnership and other stakeholders at a meeting chaired by Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler earlier this month.
The IMF was last here in June. At that time, a team led by Judith Gold, the Fund’s deputy division chief for the Western Hemisphere Department, came “at the invitation of the authorities” to “review recent economic developments and discuss the 2017 budget”. (SC)
