The University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus is an exporter of services and deserves to be recognized among Barbados’ foreign-exchange earning sectors, Principal Sir Hilary Beckles has said.
“This campus generates more foreign exchange into this country than many hotels combined,” he said last Friday evening.
“This campus generates millions of dollars each year into this economy. This campus is a major exporter and a major income earner to this country.”
Addressing the graduating ceremony at the 3Ws Oval of the 10th training group of 19 Venezuelans who completed a three-month English immersion course, he pointed out that this continuing programme has so far earned the UWI and Barbados more than US$5 million. Additionally, the campus plans expanding the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) programme to accommodate candidates from Brazil, Colombia and other South American nations. (GA)
