The United Progressive Party (UPP) is proposing to reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) back to 15 per cent if they are elected.
This was one of the proposals, party leader Lynette Eastmond disclosed today at the Courtyard by Marriott, Hastings Christ Church, when the recently formed political party released its New Economy Manifesto.
“The Progressive Party will reduce the tax burden on Barbadians over a five year period as the productive sectors are given a time to grow,” Eastmond said. Under the current Democratic Labour Party administration, VAT was increased to 17.5 per cent.
In addition to eradicating corruption, the party rep also promised to gradually remove the National Social Responsibility Levy (NSRL) – which has been a cause of contention for many Barbadians – and other measures which they say plan to improve the tourism industry and cultural industries. (TG)
