Black Friday frenzy

Riding on the entrenched American post-Thanksgiving Day shopping day and the plethora of discounts that come with it, some stores opened as early as 5 a.m. and offered discounts as high as 25 per cent off in the adopted Black Friday sales.

A wide range of businesses yesterday sought to lure the shoppers with their advertisements in the WEEKEND NATION  outlining the various price discounts on offer for products ranging from consumer durables to clothing.

And before the sun had even risen, shoppers showed they meant business as scores of them flocked to Cost-U-Less in Welches, St Thomas, to take advantage of the one-day sale on things like smart TVs, fans and microwaves.

A video of the moment the warehouse outlet opened its doors showed eager shoppers as they poured inside to cash in on the bargains. There was no let-up there either, as Cost-U-Less’ car park was full throughout the day.

The scene in Sargeants Village, Christ Church, was also quite hectic as Sheraton Mall opened its doors from 7 a.m. to offer mall-wide deals, much to the delight of shoppers.

Mother and daughter duo Sherion and Camille Harvey were among those who ventured to Payless ShoeSource to buy some cut-price merchandise.

Meanwhile, Courts Barbados had its own sale going on as shoppers flexed their purchasing power to snatch up what they could.

In fact, that was indeed the case for many of the Courts branches. However, it was at the store’s main branch on St George Street, The City, that there was something akin to a more peaceful version of what many have become accustomed to seeing on the US television networks on Black Friday shopping sprees.

The crowd was thick and people were on the hunt for bargains. Electronic items seemed to be popular picks.

Yesterday afternoon, Unicomer [ Courts]  Barbados  commercial director Peter Ellis told the SATURDAY SUN the day up to that point had been quite good.

He said the morning segment of the day was filled with activity from consumers, which met their expectations for the Black Friday sales. (AD)
