Beat crisis by farming

Added 15 October 2012

A call went out twice yesterday for cooperation in order to feed Barbadians and help vendors survive. The double admonishment came from former Minister of Agriculture, now Minister of Commerce and Trade Senator Haynesley Benn, and Barbados Association of Retailers, Vendors and Entrepreneurs (BARVEN) president Alister Alexander. They were at the time attending BARVEN’s tenth anniversary service at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, President Kennedy Drive, St Michael, to start its week of activities. Benn said the best way out of the economic crisis for Barbados was through agriculture. He reasoned that any incident could affect tourism or an economic downturn could affect the financial services sector, the island’s two major foreign exchange earners. (AC)
