MAN TO WOMAN: Locked phone dilemma

Carol-Ann Tudor,

Added 29 May 2011

For some reason, women love to play detective and go through a man’s cellphone, especially if he likes to keep it locked. She believes he has something to hide, but only they know the real reason!! For years your girlfriend never used to lock her phone, but all of a sudden she has a code on it. Would you be worried? Would you try to break the code? What would go through your mind? Mr Trouble: That would definitely send up a red flag if my girlfriend were to suddenly put a password lock on her phone! There must be some reason she is locking it – that being that she has something to hide. Someone must be new in her life and I would do my best to access it to see who this new person is. If you were doing nothing wrong you have nothing to hide so she must be up to something wrong. If she put a lock on her phone and gave me the password, I could live with that. Man To Woman: This answer made me smile. I don’t know of one single man that puts a lock on his phone and gives his woman a password, so I believe you will have to do like the women and try to break the code. Mr Gym: Any woman who decides to lock her phone has something to hide. It’s the norm for men to lock phones, but when a woman starts locking her phone that means that someone new has her interest. I wouldn’t be too pleased at all and it would bother me non-stop to know that her phone is locked and there is something in there she doesn’t want me to see. Being a man, I know we only lock phones when we have something to hide, so by locking hers is a sure sign to me that she is up to mischief. Man To Woman: I’m glad to hear that we women are not crazy and that a man can admit that the reason men lock phones is when they are up to mischief. We knew it all along!! Red Man: I wouldn’t actually realize she has a lock code on her phone until she asks me to do something on her phone, and I would wait until a time when we are comfortable to ask her why all of a sudden she has decided to lock her phone. I wouldn’t try to break it or unlock it myself . . . . I would however, drop comments from time to time. Man To Woman: Dropping comments suggest that you are definitely not comfortable with that phone being locked, so just come straight and tell her unlock or else. Derek Williams: Yes I will be worried because first of all I don’t lock my phone. If I see her locking her phone she is hiding something. Your body language tells everything about you, so if she is not accustomed doing it, then all of a sudden every minute she’s texting or talking to someone, then she is cheating! Man To Woman: Hmmm!! Women are never expected to believe that a man is cheating when he locks his phone, we are expected to believe that “the people at work are very malicious” or “you know I want to keep our personal business confidential” with a wink eye, but never cheating. Wilkinson: I have seen so many homes and relationships broken up because a man goes into his girlfriend/wife phone and vice versa. It broke up the trust entrusted in each other and so I have no intention of going in no girlfriend/wife phones. Man To Woman: Good for you. Trust is one of the key things in any relationship hence the reason why neither partner should have their phones locked. Locked phones always spell “something to hide”. Mr. Wood: I would never go into her phone, whether or not she has something to hide. If a number or a message is so private that she has to lock her phone, then I will end the relationship, so locking her phone won’t bother me at all. Man To Woman: Women stay in relationships with men who keep their phones locked all the time. I’m surprised to hear you would end the relationship, just because she has chosen to lock her phone! Music Lover: That will never be an issue for me. I have no reason going through her phone at all. I don't even answer it if it rings next to me. Just never have any interest in what could be there at all. For me to try to break the code I would be showing a lack of trust and I believe everyone has a right to some sort of privacy. I won't go checking one’s diary so the same goes with a phone. Man To Woman: Men like you are very hard to find. A man who does not feel insecure in a situation like this is definitely a keeper for a long time relationship. Mr Dark & Handsome: Women lie just as bad as men do, therefore being a man and knowing the reason for locking our phones, I strongly believe that when a woman starts acting strange and locking her phone, then she is cheating. I’m ashamed but I am one of those men who would wait until she asleep and try to break the code. Knowing that someone else has her interest would make me very uneasy. Man To Woman: Yet another man who admits that a locked phone speaks cheating. Doesn’t surprise me at all. At least you’re not ashamed to admit that you would try to break the code just as any woman would do.
