Another court battle over promotions in the Royal Barbados Police Force may be brewing. At least, that is what some policemen whose names were submitted for promotion by Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith to the Police Services Commission (PSC) for approval are saying.
The policemen, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Sunday Sun that their understanding is that the PSC has revised the list of promotions – similar to what happened to former commissioner Darwin Dottin’s list in 2012.
That latter action resulted in 14 officers challenging their non-promotion, and led to an injunction preventing the RBPF from making any permanent promotions until their matter was settled. That case was dismissed on December 24, 2016, but is now before the Court of Appeal.
According to the policemen, Griffith held extensive interviews over several weeks last year to fill the ranks vacant, then sent his selectee list to the PSC in keeping with his commitment to the force to expedite this matter. (SP)
