A Brighton Crescent resident faced the District “A” Magistrates’ Court on Saturday in relation to last month’s mauling of an elderly woman.
Contractor Christopher Maurice Straker, 45, of No 18, Brighton Crescent, St Michael, denied two counts under the Dog (Licensing and Control) Act.
He was charged with being the owner of a dog on January 19 this year, which was unlawfully permitted to be in a public place – Brighton Road – when it was not on a leash or a lead.
There was no objection to bail and Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant released him with a surety of $1 500. She warned him to ensure that his dogs were kept on a leash, and adjourned the matters until May 17.
Enid Small, 81, a Barbadian-Canadian, who was on one of her many visits to the island, was attacked and savaged by the two dogs as she was walking through Brighton.
She suffered deep bites wounds to the buttocks, thighs and right arm, but was saved from death by the quick action of some residents who rushed to her aid. (HLE)
