Future Centre hosts green fair

ECO-FRIENDLY businesses got a chance to share their experiences and showcase their products yesterday.
The occasion was the Future Centre Trust’s  Green Revolution, Sustainable Solutions Fair at the Richard Haynes Boardwalk, Christ Church yesterday
Green Business coordinator of the Future Centre Trust Ariana Marshall said the idea for the exposition was to promote sustainable living and encourage people to spend their money with “responsible” businesses.
Marshall said some of the “green” businesses in their programme were on hand to display  products and to share experiences in becoming more environmentally friendly.
Architect technician at Studio Blue Architecture Incorporated Jamar Rock said the company focused on designing green sustainable buildings.
Rock said the main aspects to consider when designing a green building were energy efficiency and energy generation through the use of solar power or wind turbines.  
He also spoke of housing designs that optimized ventilation to help reduce the use of fans and air conditioning units.
The Harris Ulttima Plus line of paints was on also on display. The product boasts of having “easy breathe technology” as it uses the lowest possible amount of volatile organic compounds in its mixture.
Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited which got its certification as a green business earlier this year, spoke of the greening measures introduced in the work place.
Marketing and communications assistant Vicki Olton said they have introduced the recycling of ink cartridges, envelopes and two-sided printing.
There is also a cardboard recycling room where staff are encouraged to bring their cardboard, plastics, glass or cans or recycling.
Dian Small of Living Irie had a line of products to enhance the living space. The creative lifestyle designer said she ws concerned about how people felt in their living spaces. (LK)
