A fantastic beaver-trick from Peter Alleyne led a weakened Massy United Insurance Empire side to a convincing 6-0 thrashing of Deacons, who were also missing some key players in the third round of the Barbados Hockey Federation’s Men’s League on Saturday at the Hockey Centre at Wildey.

The Bank Hall lads were without key midfielder Laurando Davis and national defender Jerome Harewood, while Deacons were missing national defenders Javier Wharton and Neil Franklin.

Alleyne took advantage of the porous Deacons defence and produced entertaining solo runs which resulted in goals in the sixth, 11th, 34th and 42nd minutes.

Alleyne’s efforts bested both of Deacons’ senior custodians, as he slipped his first two past Ayoub Suttle in the first half and his last two past Deacons’ second-half goalie Dario McClean.

Supporting Alleyne on the goal sheet for Empire were Akeil Craig-Browne, who netted in the 20th minute and Dwayne Webb in the 48th.

In another men’s match, Monster All Stars edged Williams Industries Avengers 1-0 with Paul Gill scoring the only goal from a penalty corner in the 43rd minute.

There was a major upset on Sunday when Barbados Juniors defeated UWI Blackbirds 2-1, courtesy a brace from the in-form Peter Alleyne.

Fresh from a four-goal haul for Empire Club the previous day, Alleyne donned the national colours and netted two more.

His first came from a penalty stroke in the 24th minute and the second was from open play in the 35th minute to seal the Juniors’ victory.

UWI Blackbirds’ Justin Catlin scored the opener in the eighth minute but his team had no answer for Alleyne’s double strike, which gave Juniors their first points of the season. (EZS/PR)
