THIRTY-FIVE YOUNG men and women between the age of 17 and 35 embarked on an eight-day farming programme today.
The seventh instalment of the Youth in Agriculture Programme was launched today at the Clapham Community Centre.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Esworth Reid told the participants attending the ceremony that the programme was designed to help them develop an entrepreneurial skill which could lead to economic empowerment.
“A career in agriculture is just as important as a career in medicine, law, accounting or any of those other careers that some parents always say they dream for their children. Agriculture is a business that employs a specialised form of natural sciences,” he said.
The programme will include crop cultivation and animal husbandry as well as a self-development component. (LK)
