Reuse Wastewater

Barbados and other regional countries are flushing money down the drain by not reusing wastewater.
That assertion came from Christopher Corbin, programme officer with the United Nations Environment Programme, who contended that wastewater and solid waste needed to be seen as resources, not just problems.
Corbin, who is with the Caribbean Environmental Programme, said studies had shown that while pollution was costly, investment in technologies to use waste water positively could see returns of up to 34 times the amount invested.
“So why aren’t we investing?” he questioned.
“We need to reduce water pollution, collect used water, manage wastewater pollution and maximize water reuse.”
Corbin made the comments on a presentation on Wastewater Management Reform Strategies at the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association’s 22nd Annual Conference at the Hilton Barbados this morning. (DP)
