Bajans capture Hoerman Cup

BARBADOS won the Hoerman Cup, for the first time since 2004, in commanding fashion yesterday.Led once again by James Johnson, who shot one under par, the hosts played solid consistent golf to defeat defending champions Puerto Rico by 15 strokes on the day and 22 overall at the 54th Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships (CAGC) yesterday.There were some improved individual performances in the Hoerman Cup yesterday afternoon. Marcus Clarke (74), and Julian Jordan (76) completed a domineering victory in what was a team achievement all week.
Sean Edey was also consistent over the four days despite an out-of-sorts 81 yesterday.The Barbadians led the field from the previous day with seven shots.Trinidadians Carlos Baynes and Michael Commissiong snatched the Seniors title from Barbados.  Barbadians Ricky Skeete and Robert Piggott had their best score of 71 yesterday, but could not compete with the Trinidadians who swept home with 278 shots – seven better than the Bahamas and 12 better than Barbados.Barbados also finished third in the women’s event, behind winners Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago. Sally Schofield’s 79 was the best score for the Barbadian women.Orville Alleyne and Dawn Bispham, in their first outing in the Mid Amateurs Championship, were sixth.Barbados did not compete in the Super Seniors division.
