The controversial Hyatt Centric Hotel is looking like a go. In an exclusive interview, one of the developers, Mark Maloney, said the hotel earmarked for Bay Street, St Michael, is set to start later this year.

Maloney also said the social impact study which was repeatedly called for by attorney and social activist David Comissiong, would be carried out.

“We have never not wanted to carry out any of the other studies. Certainly, we couldn’t do so because of the court matter. A case was brought against the [former] Prime Minister who was head of planning so it was tied up . . . . The court case is still ongoing,” said Maloney, noting that the case had started more than a year ago.

“We have never opposed any study. All the studies required of us we did. We got permission for the project and did all the studies. This was something that the legal team that went up against the Town Planner and the [former] Prime Minister had brought up and said should have been done,” he explained. (CM)
