FIFTY?DAYS?after Prime Minister Freundel Stuart persuaded striking teachers to return to work, the impasse at Alexandra school is still simmering.
Yesterday, a senior teacher warned that things were not getting better at the St Peter school while president of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU), Mary Redman, described the situation as “not ideal”.
However, principal Jeff Broomes said he remained focused on the job at hand and would be launching his “CXC Easter Academy” programme today to assist students who lost teaching time during the three-week period in January when 30 teachers were on strike.
When pressed, Broomes refused to comment on the situation, but head of the English department, Leslie Lett Jr, told the MIDWEEK? NATION things were going downhill.
