An outspoken trade unionist is claiming a witch-hunt as lawmen close their investigations in the theft of money from the Barbados Prison Officers Association (BPOA).
General secretary of the Unity Workers Union, Senator Caswell Franklyn, made the claim as a senior police officer revealed an executive member of BPOA will not be charged despite evidence showing that he might be “criminally culpable” in relation to money taken via a number of blank cheques.
Franklyn, speaking in the wake of the events, claimed the entire investigation was one of retaliation.
“What has happened is he is the secretary for the Prison Officers Association and the association has an ongoing matter in court and the administration of the prison has ganged up against them,” Senator Franklyn said. (HLE)
