Massy Duracell Cougars have their crown.
Toni Atherley scored a game-high 33 points as Cougars finally ended the reign of two-time queens Preferred Insurance Brokers Pinelands via Tuesday’s 85-79 overtime victory in Game 3 of the No.1 Beauty Supplies & Exchange Women’s Basketball finals.
Playing at the Wildey Gym, Atherley appeared to have decided the contest with a late go-ahead triple with 20.4 seconds remaining only for the jumper to be ruled as a long two-pointer.
But Cougars eventually pulled away in the extra period with a 6-1 surge before Atherley sealed the deal with another three-pointer.
Tiffany Thorpe added 12 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists and Jennifer Joseph-Hackett finished with 12 points and 13 boards while Maria Cumberbatch led Pinelands with 20 points. (PR)
