Batsmen are surely making hay when the sun shines.

Raphael Lovell is just the latest to get into triple digits in this year’s Guardian Group Herman Griffith Primary Schools’ Cricket Competition, scoring the tournament’s fourth century to guide Milton Lynch to a big 179-run victory over Wills yesterday.

Playing at Briar Hall, Lovell smashed an unbeaten 143 in his school’s massive total of 234 for two before Derek Layne grabbed four wickets to help restrict Wills to just 55 for seven off 25 overs. It was the highest individual score and fourth century in a very heavy run-scoring season thus far.

Over at Eden Lodge, Maccaria Haynes had a half-century in the home team’s 106-run win against Deacons Primary. Haynes scored 53 in Eden Lodge’s total of 153 for six before Deacons were skittled out for just 47.

At Blenheim ‘B’, a combined St Winifred’s and St Angela’s squad held on for an enthralling four-win victory over Luther Thorne Memorial. Batting first, St Winifred’s and St Angela’s were bowled out for 116 runs in 21.5 overs but Luther Thorne barely missed out on an epic win when they barely fell short at 112 all out off of 23.1 overs.

Jordan Thomas took six for 23 at Greens as St Matthew’s defended 139 for nine by bowling out St Jude’s for 101.

Jayden Chase also had a five-for in Bayley’s Primary easy nine-wicket win againstSt Mark’s Primary at Rices.

Chase grabbed five for 14 as St Mark’s were routed for 46 before Bayley’s raced to 49 for the loss of one wicket in just 7.1 overs. (JM)
