ONE DOWN. Two to go.

Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology have gone one up in their new rivalry, having beaten Combermere 21-15 to capture the Barbados Independence Invitational Games Under-19 Schools 3x3 basketball tournament on Saturday night at the Barbados Community College.

It’s the first of three scheduled finals featuring the two sides, who are also slated to face off for this week’s league and knockout title games of the Massy United Insurance Under-19 competition.

And Polytechnic set the stage for those contests, as Premier League guards Rasheed Maynard, Deroni Hurley and Renico “Piggy” Brewster sent an early message in a quick-fire 17-7 lead.

Adjudged the tournament’s MVP, Maynard was particularly ruthless in the final after drilling three long jumpers to sandwich another two from Hurley and Brewster in that initial double-digit advantage. (JM)
