Barbados will punch above its weight again with the help of its children’s excellence, which will propel the island into a bright future.

This was the message of hope Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley shared with thousands of Barbadians when she addressed the parade marking the island’s 52nd anniversary of Independence at Kensington Oval yesterday.

In a speech pitched to the nation’s youth at a parade which put them in the spotlight, the Prime Minister said “I want the children of this country to recognise that they must be the leaders who carry us forth . . . . our aim in all that we do is to bring a better life to you.”

“We have come to Kensington Oval today to say to the world that we too shall punch above our weight again in this country,” she said to resounding applause from the stands. (GC)
