The Joseph Payne Memorial track and field classic is back.

After two years of cancellation due to the coronavirus pandemic, one of the island’s most anticipated athletics meets will take place on Saturday at the National Stadium.

However, no spectators are allowed due to COVID-19 protocols and only field events will be contested.

During a press conference yesterday morning at the worn-out Waterford, St Michael facility, chairman Charles Walcott told reporters the meet was one of the main pre-CARIFTA qualifying events for field athletes.

So far, thrower Kevon Hinds and multitalented Aren Spencer have hit the standard for the Games in Kingston, Jamaica, from April 14-16. (AGB)
