Pride facing innings defeat

It was a case of opposites on Saturday as West Indies were winning but Barbados’ reserve cricketers were losing.

If West Indies cricket, boosted by six Barbadians in the starting team, seems to be strong again with their second straight resounding victory over England, Barbados Pride seems to be hurting from their absence.

Even if fewer than a hundred spectators were at Kensington Oval to witness the substandard batting display, the hosts were facing an embarrassing innings defeat by the Windward Islands Volcanoes on the penultimate day of their low-keyed match in the four-day Regional First-Class Championship.

Replying to the Volcanoes’ first innings total of 470 for eight declared, which was built around Devon Smith’s masterful 199, Pride were dismissed for 253 in the first innings. (EZS)
