Fresh on the heels of a crime bulletin alert last week for its staff working in Barbados, the United States has now issued a travel advisory for its visitors to the island.
However, Attorney General Dale Marshall has cautioned that it was the Americans’ lowest level of advisories urging people “to exercise ‘normal’ precautions in Barbados”.
He told the DAILY NATION: “The US issues travel advisories for every country in the world. None are left out. The advisories range from Level 1 to Level 4. This advisory in respect to Barbados is at Level 1, the lowest level. This is the same level as Canada and Bermuda. England and the Bahamas are higher – Level 2.”
He added that Trinidad and Jamaica were at Level 2.
The Level I advisory was posted on Tuesday on the US Department of State’s website. It warned them not to travel to six areas, including Crab Hill in St Lucy, the northern district which was the spot of several shooting incidents last year resulting in a police lockdown of the district in October; and even to avoid pleasure boats Jolly Roger and Buccaneer Cruises at night.
