Joy-Ann Harper will be releasing her debut CD at Amaryllis Beach Resort, Hastings, Christ Church, at 7 p.m. Saturday 19, November.
Entitled Renewed, the CD has 12 tracks, all written and produced by Trinidadian Sherwin Gardner. Featured guest artistes include Shane Forrester, De Warrior, Ria Simone, Nicole Clarke, Sammijane, Alistair Griffith and Barry Reid.
The St Philip-born Christ Church resident, who has performed at Gospelfest and many other activities, believes the time to release this CD is now.
“I am anxious and I am ready,” she said.
In 1998, then 16-year-old Springer Memorial student Harper became the first winner of the Destinee Singing Competition and in 2002 she won the New Artiste Of The Year Flame Award.
Once compared to Alicia Keys, Harper is known for her near angelic tones and has sung at many concerts and shared the stage with the likes of John King, Jan Gibson and Paula Hinds.
She also performed background vocals for King and Sammijane.
Harper’s debut CD came about after her friend Hozia Hinds introduced her to Trinidadian producer Gardner at a time when life for her was challenging.
Renewed, the theme song and title of the album, capture exactly how she feels now about herself and her faith.
On the CD’s 12 tracks, local songbird Nikki Browne is featured on All About God while American musicians from Mary Mary play on two tracks None Like You and You’re Amazing. (PR)
